Fair hosts pep rally for SU Football season opener
2009-09-04
The New York State Fair will help fire up Syracuse University Football fans for Saturday's season opener with an old-fashioned pep rally at Chevy Court on Friday, Sept. 4.
A trio of SU football greats - College Football Hall of Famers Don McPherson and Coach Dick MacPherson, and Orange All-American Chris Gedney - will be joined by the SU Spirit Squad at the 5:30 p.m. event.
The cheerleaders and SU mascot Otto the Orange will then join the Fair's daily parade, which starts at 6 p.m.
"Central New York will host two major events this weekend - the Great New York State Fair and SU's first game under Coach Doug Marrone," State Fair Director Dan O'Hara said. "We are encouraging people to experience them both."
Syracuse will take on the University of Minnesota in the Carrier Dome at noon on Saturday, Sept. 5.
On Friday, Fairgoers can pick up a coupon good for $10 off an adult ticket to the game. They will be available during the Chevy Court pep rally, or at the Syracuse Athletics display in the Time-Warner Exhibit at the Science and Industry Building.
The noon kickoff allows fans to visit the Fair after the game. Kid Rock and Uncle Kracker will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the Mohegan Sun Grandstand, and Boyz II Men will offer a free concert at 8 p.m. at Chevy Court. The exhibit buildings at the Fairgrounds don't close their doors until 10 p.m. and the James E. Strates Midway doesn't close until midnight.
