2009-09-06

Pop icon MC Hammer to perform free concert tonight

A pop music revue by the acclaimed Paul Robeson Performing Arts Center will be the centerpiece of this year's Homegrown Talent Day at the New York State Fair on Sunday, Sept. 6.

Three other Central New York musical groups will round out the Homegrown portion of Chevy Court's entertainment schedule that day: The Action, Prime Time and Emerald City.

At 8 p.m., hip hop pioneer and pop icon MC Hammer will perform on the Chevy Court stage. Chevy Court is FREE to all Fair visitors with Fair admission.

"This year, we've worked to bring more variety to the Chevy Court lineup, and that effort includes our Homegrown Talent series," State Fair Director Dan O'Hara said. "All four of these incredibly talented groups bring something different to the stage."

Sunday's Homegown Talent lineup:

11:30 a.m. - The Action - A unique ska/jazz/rock band with lots of energy.

1 p.m. - Paul Robeson Performing Arts Center - A lineup of female singers will perform "Yesteryear: Ladies of Song," a musical revue of 50 years of pop music that emerged from gospel and Negro spirituals.

2:30 p.m. - Prime Time - A horn-based party band that plays classic rock and pop favorites.

3:45 p.m. - Emerald City - A popular Central New York guitar band that plays rock from the 80s to the present.
