Bigger, better attraction moves indoors. Haunted hayride returns.
Fright Nights at the Fair, one of the largest Halloween attractions in the Northeast, will open for the season tonight in new location at the New York State Fairgrounds, offering five haunted houses and a terrifying hayride through the Fairground's barns and stables.
This year, all five haunted houses will be under one roof inside the Fair's Beef Cattle Barn on the western edge of the Fairgrounds. Fright Nights' covered wagon will take off from the barn and weave among the Fair's agricultural buildings, where scary, animated scenes and costumed characters lurk around every dark corner.
In years' past, the attraction has operated in the parking lot above the Fairgrounds by Interstate 690. Now, visitors will have to enter the Fairgrounds through Gate 2 and follow signs to Fright Night.
"This year, people won't have to worry about getting wet if it rains," said Grazzi Zazzara, Fright Nights' owner and operator. "Once people find it, they're going to be impressed. There's no question that nobody's going to be bigger than us. We're going to be the talk of the region."
Many visitors to the New York State Fair this summer got a taste of Fright Night's "Circus of Horror" attraction - one of the five featured in the Beef Cattle Barn - which operated by Gate 2 near the Dairy Cattle Building during the 12 days of the Fair.
Fright Nights at the Fair will run from 7 to 11:30 p.m. on all Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in October.
In addition to the haunted attractions, Fright Nights will offer a variety of food concession stands, an indoor hay-bale maze and several children's amusement rides as part of a non-scary, miniature carnival. The six horror attractions are not recommended for children younger than 9, and parents are urged to use discretion.
Group discounts are available. For ticket information, visit Fright Nights' Website at www.frightnightsatthefair.com.
